About Top Supplements
Top Supplements is an independent editorial site that ranks dietary supplement products across five health categories. We are operated by Speedwinds Nutrition, Inc. — a supplement manufacturer. We disclose this because transparency matters.
Our Story
Why Rankings Matter
The supplement aisle is overwhelming by design. Hundreds of products with overlapping claims, proprietary blends that hide doses, and marketing copy that sounds scientific but says nothing. Consumers don't have time to evaluate every product against published research — so most people either pick the cheapest option, the one with the best packaging, or whatever their friend recommended.
We built Top Supplements to do that evaluation work for you. Each category page ranks a small number of products that meet our evidence, formulation, and value criteria. We explain why each product made the list, what it's best for, and what its limitations are.
What We Stand For
Our Ranking Criteria
- Evidence: The active ingredients must have published human clinical trials supporting the claimed benefit. Animal studies and in vitro research aren't enough. We prioritize randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses.
- Formulation: The product must use bioavailable ingredient forms at clinically relevant doses. Standardized extracts where applicable. No proprietary blends that hide individual ingredient amounts.
- Value: The product must justify its price relative to ingredient quality and dosing. We flag premium pricing on commodity ingredients and highlight products that deliver strong cost-per-serving value.
Products that meet all three criteria make our ranked lists. Products that fail on any one criteria don't — regardless of brand reputation or marketing budget.
What We Don't Do
Alternatives to Supplements
Supplements are not the only option — and for some health goals, they may not be the best option. Honest coverage means acknowledging alternatives:
- Prescription medications: For hair loss, finasteride is more potent than any natural DHT blocker. For cholesterol, statins reduce LDL far more than plant sterols. If your condition is moderate to severe, discuss pharmaceutical options with your doctor instead of relying on supplements alone.
- Diet and lifestyle changes: For heart health, a Mediterranean diet with regular exercise may deliver more benefit than omega-3 supplements. For joint comfort, weight management and low-impact exercise reduce load on joints more effectively than any capsule. For antioxidant protection, five servings of fruits and vegetables daily outperform any supplement blend.
- Other supplement brands: Our ranked picks are not the only quality products on the market. Brands like Thorne, Life Extension, NOW Foods, and Jarrow Formulas also produce well-formulated supplements with third-party testing. We rank the products we believe deliver the best combination of evidence, formulation, and value — but similar products from reputable manufacturers may work equally well for you.
- Professional guidance: A registered dietitian can identify nutritional gaps specific to your diet. A sports medicine physician can recommend targeted protocols. A dermatologist can prescribe treatments stronger than any OTC supplement. Professional guidance is often a better investment than trial-and-error supplementation.
